Lately, we've had some very windy days, following a very windy winter. One day, there was a loud, strange noise, and the ridge of our rooftop was in the backyard! You may find it interesting, that in this country, roofs are actually not made water-tight. In fact, you will see in the picture that there is a gable up there missing some panes of glass. There is a layer of dirt/straw stuff that goes on the attic floor to catch the rain and keep it from leaking through to our ceiling. It works- but we weren't about to test it with a missing ridge on our roof. That, of course, became priority: to get it back up before it rains.
As the boys talked about (and worried about!) their dad on the roof, we saw the analogy of several different truths:
The first thing Michael did was get the big ladder and go up to the attic to see where the supports were and see if the roof was strong enough to hold his weight. He saw that the main supports were as large as telephone poles and would hold him, but he couldn't step between them or he would risk falling through the floor.
It is imperative that we study the Word of God to see how it supports us in life. Even in dangerous or scary situations, if we stay on God's principles of life, we are safe. It is important to stay "in the way" and not try to go our own way, or we will "fall through the roof" and definitely make life harder for ourselves.
Michael is not fond of heights (neither am I!) but he knew he would be safe because he knew where the support beams were.
Sometimes life doesn't feel "safe." Bad things happen to "good" people. But, as Believers, we are safe in God's plan (and he never wastes pain!) because we know convincing truth about God: he is in control, he sees all, and he will never leave us. Therefore, even in times of trouble, we are safe.
The Bible gives us wisdom for every decision. The understanding heart will read God's Word, listen to God's Spirit, and apply God's truth to his life.
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls... Jeremiah 6:16
