"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn."
(Luke 2:7)
How many times we hear:
Of holy, peaceful night.
Perfect nativity
Lovely angels singing near.
But,
Can you just imagine:
Mary's hours of labor?
Busy packed streets?
Lowing, crying, noisy din?
Can you see the stable there:
A dark and smelly cave?
Dank, cold stone walls?
Manure everywhere?
Can you see the birth now:
The dirty, mucky straw?
Several filthy rags?
The feed trough of a cow?
Can you feel Mary's heart?
Exhausted happiness.
Pondering events.
Praising in the dark.
And also for Joseph:
In full obedience.
Choosing faith and trust.
Fighting apprehension.
Can you see inside the stall:
A fussy newborn baby?
Pale tired Mary?
Joseph, strong through all?
Still,
Do you know this child:
Came from heav'nly throne?
Left royal castle?
Chose this lowly style?
Do you know this, God's Son:
Brings joy and peace.
Gives free salvation.
Invites all to come.
Will you now choose Him?
Accept Christ as Saviour?
Know Jesus for yourself?
See the beauty of heav'n?
