Comfort
“Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
Who comforteth us in all our
tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble,
by
the comfort wherewith we ourselves are
comforted of God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
The touch of the wind, the kiss of the moonlight, the warmth
of the sun, the coolness of grass…. These things remind me that God is a God of comfort. At the same time though, sometimes, I just need a hug, because it feels that
the whisper of God’s promise is “not enough.” What about times like that? Where
is His comfort when I can’t “feel” it?
God’s comfort comes in who He is. He is the Judge who will
vindicate any wrong doing against His children. He is the Guide who has every detail of life planned. He is the Broken
One who understands my sorrow. I can
trust Him. What’s more- He’s always there. Yes, it is tempting to doubt God’s
comfort when I can’t physically feel
Him, but to do that, would be to put my own thoughts and feelings above God’s Word. David
said:
“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of
death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with
me;
thy rod (judgment) and thy staff, (guidance) they comfort me.”
Psalm 23:4
