Let Me Help!

Howdy ya'll!  It has been so long since I have been able to write, due to being snowed in for almost a month.  God's creation surely is beautiful though, even if all the snow (10 ft drifts) keeps us at home.  One of the neat things about being home is spending lots of time with my nephew, Isaac.  He loves the snow, but when it is so cold, he can't be outside, so when he can be outside he's out a long time.

I am learning that child training starts early.  Here is my nephew, only 18 months old, and yet he is learning to help however he can.  No being a wimp with him- he's all boy and loves "guy" things.  As I shoveled 6 inches of snow off our walk (an overnight accumulation,) Isaac came behind me, dragging a shovel twice his size.  Do I discourage him? Not at all!  Who cares if he's not really "helping".  He is learning to serve, and to do it with a smile!

Of course, we went sledding.  We have enough snow around here that it is not hard to find a drift big enough for sliding.  At first, Isaac would whimper when he fell off, even if he wasn't hurt.  However, Aunt BB doesn't take whiners sledding.  "If you're not hurt, then don't whine.  You're okay."  Before long, he was excited to grab the sled and go for a ride- and who cares if we tumble in the snow on the way!

Keeping gloves on the little guy was a challenge.  He would rather take off his gloves and taste the snow.  But a constant reminder to keep his gloves on or go inside helped him make his choice.  As we would walk, Isaac and I had to stay on trails... or fall off into a drift.  At first, he would wander off and then call for me to rescue him, but it's very self-critiquing.

Yes indeed, training character into children starts early.  Isaac isn't even 2 years old; but already, he knows the difference between what he's supposed to do and what he's not supposed to do.  Remember friends, character matters!  Put Jesus first, and strive to be like him, and be a shining light for Jesus!
