Lately, our family has been working through a study on our speach.- In particular, sarcasm. I have found it to be helpful, though convicting. Here is part 1:
Preface:
God told us to be separate from the world. Not just a small step away, but vastly different: like night and day! One area in which we should stand out is in our conversation with others, and specifically Believers, for that's how folks know that we are followers of Jesus.
The following is a study my family and I recently put together on sarcasm. At first, I didn't think God would have anything to say about the lingo of the day, but I found it to be quite the contrary. Not only does God care what our speech is, but there are harsh consequences and bountiful rewards involved. Now I really see the importance of using kind words.
What you do about the study is entirely up to you. However, God warns that if you what is right, but you neglect it, that's sin. God's complete desire is for us to use His Word as a guidebook- to see how to live and how not to live, then to recieve the grace and power to do as the Bible says. When we choose God's way, He will bless!
Preface:
Words are powerful! So powerful that the tongue, lips, and mouth are mentioned over 2o0 times in the Bible, and words is mentiond over 400 times. For,
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." (Proverbs 18:21)
If it isn't absolutely positively good, then it is evil. Those evil words curse not only the speaker, but also the person it's intended toward, and surrounding listeners. It is like a poison, spreading and destroying the body of Believers. How important our words are!The following is a study my family and I recently put together on sarcasm. At first, I didn't think God would have anything to say about the lingo of the day, but I found it to be quite the contrary. Not only does God care what our speech is, but there are harsh consequences and bountiful rewards involved. Now I really see the importance of using kind words.
"Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones."
(Proverbs 16:24)
What you do about the study is entirely up to you. However, God warns that if you what is right, but you neglect it, that's sin. God's complete desire is for us to use His Word as a guidebook- to see how to live and how not to live, then to recieve the grace and power to do as the Bible says. "But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, decieving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the Word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: for he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed." (James 1:22-25)
